Rainbow Mennonite Church is involved in a variety of outreach programs in Rosedale, the neighborhood where we are located, and throughout Kansas City, KS.  Below are some of the church’s outreach activities and partnerships with other community organizations.

Cross-Lines Christmas Store
Our church organizes the food section of the Cross-Lines Christmas Store.  This annual program gives low-income individuals and families in Kansas City, KS the opportunity to “shop” for food, clothing, household items and children’s toys for the Christmas season.

Easter Egg Hunt
The annual Easter Egg Hunt in Whitmore Park is sponsored by the church and Rosedale Optimist Club.

EOF Head Start
This weekday preschool program meets in the church building and is operated by the Economic Opportunity Foundation Head Start Program.

Family Game Night
Freedom School scholars and their families are invited to the church for a fun evening of pizza and board games in the spring and fall.

Freedom School
Rainbow Mennonite CDF Freedom School® is a 6-week summer enrichment program for approximately 100 children in grades K-8.  Rainbow Mennonite Church has served as a host site for Freedom School since 2007.  Click here for more information about Freedom Schools.

Hot Dogs in the Park
Every Saturday evening in July, church members and neighborhood residents gather together for hot dogs and a potluck meal in Whitmore Park.

Rainbow Community Garden
Rainbow members started this community garden in 2009 on a vacant lot across the street from the church building.  For more information, click here to check out the Rainbow Community Garden website.  The Rainbow Community Garden is connected with the Healthy Kids Initiative, a faith based advocacy effort working to reduce childhood obesity in Rosedale by promoting active living and healthy eating.

Willa Gill Food Kitchen
The first Friday of every other month our church helps serve food at Willa Gill Food Kitchen with volunteers from Trinity Community Church.  Trinity prepares the food and Rainbow helps them serve it.  Willa Gill is located in downtown Kansas City, KS.

Whitmore Playground

This park is adjacent to the church and widely used by the community.
