Flyover People: Life on the Ground ................... Wesley Room

Written by Cheryl Unruh, this is about the Kansas experience: wind, long horizons, clouds, storms. It’s about life in a small town, a childhood in the center of Kansas. Cheryl grew up in Pawnee Rock and graduated from the University of Kansas. She lives in Emporia and writes a weekly column for the Emporia Gazette.

The Politics of Jesus .................................................... Room 110

Written by John Howard Yoder, this book’s approach is to study the Gospel of Luke and parts of Paul’s letter to the Romans to show that Jesus’ message was one of radical Christian pacifism in behalf of the cause of the weak, poor, and disenfranchised. The book makes the case that Jesus had a social agenda that proclaimed the cause of a new society while not using violence to achieve those ends which in turn resulted in his crucifixion.

What It's Like To Go To War ..................................... Room 114

In 1968, at the age of 23, author Karl Marlantes was dropped into the Vietnamese jungle, an inexperienced lieutenant in command of a platoon of forty Marines. He’s spent the last forty years dealing with his war experience. This book takes a deeply personal and candid look at what it is like to experience the ordeal of combat.

You Never Gave Me a Name .......................................... Library

This memoir records Katie Funk Wiebe's search for identity as a woman left widowed with young children who becomes a writer and an early Mennonite and biblical feminist. Valerie Weaver-Zercher, contributing editor to Sojourners, says "This is vintage Funk Wiebe: unaffected, spirited, and unblinking."

The Wired Word ................................................ Sunflower Room

This modern Bible study uses headlines to illustrate each week's adult lesson. Each Thursday, lessons are emailed to the facilitators with the scriptural texts and questions for discussion. The facilitators can email the weekly lesson materials to members of the class. Because it's based on current topics, participants can also join in the discussion without having read the lesson.
