Initiatives
Freedom School – Rainbow Mennonite is hosting a 6-week educational enrichment program for Rosedale children in grades K-8 this summer. The Freedom School will serve 100 children and their families. The program emphasizes literacy, multicultural awareness, conflict resolution, social action, community service, parental involvement, and more. The Peace and Justice Committee is supporting this initiative, along with the Rainbow congregation and Rosedale community partners.
Ending the War in Iraq – Joining with individuals and organizations across the nation, the Peace and Justice Committee is calling for an end to the U.S.-led war in Iraq.
Support to Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) – CPT is a faith-based non-profit organization dedicated to reducing violence and creating conditions for justice and peace in numerous “hotspots” around the world. CPT sends teams of trained international observers (“peacemakers”) to troubled parts of the world to document human rights abuses, support indigenous persons and organizations working for peace, provide trainings and skills in conflict resolution, and witness to the possibilities of peace. Committee members have participated in CPT actions and educational events.
Comprehensive Immigration Reform – Once again, the immigration debate is heating up in the United States. The Peace and Justice Committee advocates for legislation that will reunify family members that have been separated, protect workers’ rights, ensure humane interior and border enforcement of immigration laws, and provide an earned path to U.S. citizenship for millions of undocumented workers who demonstrate a willingness to contribute to our society in productive ways.
